“Statins are initiated with high dose in patients with high risk of stroke, peripheral vascular disease (PVD) or coronary artery disease (CAD). For moderate or low risk patients, you may use low dose,” says Dr. PC Manoria. “Monitoring LDL levels after introducing statins is necessary. If statins are inadequate in reducing LDL to below 70, PCSK9 inhibitors can be added for another 50-60% reduction.”
