“Yoga has three components - stretching exercises, breathing exercises and meditation. While not all heart patients can do physical exercises, anybody can do breathing and meditation,” says Dr. Manchanda to clarify concerns over inability of the elderly to practice yoga. “We are conducting an Indo-UK study with yoga as a very cheap method of cardiac rehabilitation and we will have the results in 2-3 years to show that it can be a useful modality.”
