Dr. Vinod Mittal, Senior consultant diabetologist - Delhi Heart & Lung Institute, Senior visiting consultant - Sir Ganga Ram Hospital shared his insights with us at Torrent RSSDI tv, 2019. This is what he had to say:

‘Diabetes is a silent killer and is associated with very serious chronic complications.’

‘The cardiorenal complications are very serious and are associated with morbidity and mortality significantly.’

  • " CREDENCE trial is the only trial with SGLT2 inhibitors like Canagliflozin in which there were pre-specified primary renal composite endpoints and cardiovascular composite endpoints. "

‘In the last 20 years, no form of treatment except maybe ACE inhibitors and ARBs are found to have some renoprotective effect.’

‘In the case of primary renal composite endpoints there was a reduction of 30% by end of the trial’

  • " The CREDENCE trial is really a game changer now we have novel agents in the form of SGLT2 inhibitors to deal with various complications. "

‘Canagliflozin also reduced the cardiovascular events by 25% in CREDENCE trial.’
