"The decision of whether or not a shoulder dislocation needs surgery is based on the age of the patient and the levels of physical activity he is routinely engaged in," says Dr. Vikas Kapoor."Two months after opening the sling, an MRI is taken to determine the stability of the joint. People with relatively stable joints and low activity are exempted from surgery, but 90% patients, usually young athletes, are recommended surgery when the test shows a surgically correctable lesion, mostly the Bankart lesion.""If surgery is timely performed after 2-3 months of dislocation, there is 100% probability of the patient being able to go back to active sports."
