The cardiovascular disease in our country is increasing day by day. It is affecting both the urban and rural populations. Indians as a whole or Southeast Asians are predisposed for the cardiovascular diseases, 30% more as compared to our western counter part. Apart from the genetic factor, the other risks factors are also very important, diabetes which is also increasing in our Indian population, hypertension that is also increasing in our Indian population, smoking habits, dyslipidemia and the change in the lifestyles because of the growing urbanization are the major risk factors in our country. In our country, the cardiovascular disease is a major cause of the death and disability. So, all of us should know what are the symptoms for this disease (2:00) and we should try to go for the treatment as early as possible. The symptoms of the cardiovascular disease especially the heart attacks are the chest pain, but the severity of the chest pain is not always same. Even the minor chest pain or minor discomfort which the patients are taking very lightly or the symptoms they are assimilating that of the gastritis, like belching, like pain in epigastrium are also is symptoms for cardiac heart attack. So, if we are having this type of symptoms, we should definitely consult to our cardiologist or at least to our physician and get an ECG done. So, once the diagnosis is over, we should not take it very lightly. We should go for the treatment immediately as early as possible because the treatment of the heart disease is time dependent. (3:00) If you get the treatment within an hour, the results are excellent, even within the six hours the results are good, but if you go for the treatment after 24 hours, the results are not so good and majority of the patients are dying because of delaying the treatment. So, we should go for the treatment as early as possible and especially if the facilities are available we should go for the angioplasty and a stenting for the disease because the artery has to be opened as early as possible. So, treatment time is very important and we should always try to get treatment within time. The incidence of hypertension is also increasing in India so all of us are knowing that so many drugs are available for the treatment of hypertension including ace inhibitors ACE, ARBs, calcium thinner blockers, beta-blockers and diuretics. Among all these antihypertensives, the ARBs and the ace inhibitors are very important. (4:00) Among ARBs, there are so many options are available, so many statins are available, losartan, telmisartan, olmesartan and so on. So among all these, the robust data is available about the telmisartan and in my practice I usually prefer telmisartan because we have a lot of evidence data.
